Your Visitors Now Clearly See When They're Chatting with AI

Transparency matters, especially when it comes to AI. That's why onWebChat now clearly shows your visitors when they are talking to an AI assistant instead of a human agent. It's a small change with a big benefit: more trust for your visitors, and peace of mind for you when it comes to the new EU AI Act.

What's new

When your AI chatbot is handling a conversation, two clear indicators now appear in the chat window:

1. An "AI" badge in the chat widget header, next to the title. Visitors can see at a glance that the replies they are receiving are generated by an AI assistant.

2. A short notice above the first AI message, letting the visitor know right away that they are speaking with automated support, for example: "You're chatting with an AI assistant."

When does it appear?

The badge and the notice show up only when the AI bot is active in the conversation. They are not shown during normal human chats.

The moment a human agent takes over the conversation, the AI indicators disappear, so your visitors always know exactly who they are talking to at each stage of the chat.

Why we added it: the EU AI Act

The EU AI Act is the European Union's regulation for artificial intelligence. One of its core transparency requirements is that people must be informed when they are interacting with an AI system rather than a human, unless it is already obvious from the context. This transparency obligation becomes applicable on August 2, 2026.

For a live chat widget, that means visitors should be told when a chatbot, and not a person, is answering their questions. Our new AI badge and chat notice make this disclosure clear and automatic, helping your business stay on the right side of the regulation well ahead of the deadline.

Why transparency is good for your business

Being open about AI is not just about compliance. Visitors appreciate honesty, and setting the right expectations from the start leads to smoother conversations. When people know they are talking to an AI, they tend to ask clearer questions, and they know a human is available when they need one.

Do you need to do anything?

No. The change is already live and works automatically for every account using the AI chatbot. There is nothing to enable and nothing to configure. If you use the AI assistant, your chat widget is already showing the new indicators.
